Labor Day Happenings

Hope you all had a great Holiday. We did. Nick actually had the holiday off and it was a much needed break. We started it off with a long walk on the beach with Bailey. It was a beautiful morning as it had just rained and the storm was rolling off into the ocean. Bailey got to practice her ‘off the leash’ time. She is getting so much better at listening and staying close. Only when there is another dog around do we have to leash her because she will take off running for them. She barks and acts all intimidating until we get to the other dog. Then she cowers and hides between my legs.

She got to meet a giant schnauzer (70-100lbs) on the beach as yesterday. It was kind of funny because I think the giant schnauzer was at the top of the weight class and Bailey is considered a small miniature schnauzer (8-20lbs, Bailey comes in at 11.6) so there was quite the difference. I wish I had brought my camera.

We then spent the morning relaxing together and enjoyed a swim in the afternoon. We decided to go on a shrimp hunt for dinner. See, normally I don’t like shrimp. I only enjoyed for a few years in my late teens but had a bad experience with some baby shrimp and haven’t touched the stuff since. The night before, at our friends, I decided to try it again with the Low-Country Boil. I liked it and wanted more. Unfortunately, the local seafood market by the docks was closed due to the holiday. But we still go some from Fresh Market. So for dinner we enjoyed a grilled shrimp, sausage, and lots of veggies. I was teasing Nick that I must be on a shrimp kick because I’m pregnant or something (I’m not).

I also made garlic spinach mashed sweet/russet potatoes.

I normally don’t like to combine breads and potatoes at the same dinner since potatoes are already a carbohydrate. But it was a sour dough baguette and that’s our two favorites combined into one, we had to have. We also don’t keep soda in the house but I was on a kick so our classy homemade dinner was invaded.

We had this great idea that we should make a fort to watch a movie in. It was a failed attempt as you can see. We just are not as cool as our childhood days. I wish I had pictures of the forts my siblings and I built in our playroom. They were big. We settled for just having the air mattress up so we could watch on the big screen (we do this a lot). We watched The Adjustment Bureau. I really liked it. I normally get antsy during a movie and never want to just sit and watch but this one had me captivated the whole time. I recommend it if you have not yet seen it.

Thats me holding it up.
