Home Improvement Saturdays: Our Bedroom

Our lovely bedroom was blue…baby’s blue room, from the days of Nick’s bachelor pad. Therefore, I decided it was the first thing that needed to be changed in the house. So we got some nice paint from Lowe’s, the kind where you don’t need to prime first and got to work. The paint worked really well in covering the blue but our color wasn't that dark either.

We used painters tape along all the trim. However, I have learned is that it's just as easy and saves time to use a large plastic puddy knife. Hold it right along the baseboard and paint then move. I would also use a mini (I mean mini) sponge roller instead of a brush when doing this. I will never tape off again now that I've learned this trick. Although, it wasn't until I had painted almost all of my condo and almost all my friends house. But hey, now she and I are pros.

The baseboards, trim, and doors also got a fresh coat of white paint. A previous owner painted the baseboards to make them white instead of yellowed off-white. Except they used latex paint over an oil base (in many rooms of the house) and so if you barely touched it, it scratched right off. So I got to scrap, sand, prime 2x, and paint it all white again. Overall, it was a big improvement and looks so much nicer.

I think this view has changed

The only picture I could find of the before. Nick's bachelor pad.
