Thanksgiving 2011

Bailey and cousin Griffin. Funny how they
are both tilting their heads.
For Thanksgiving we met Nick’s brother Justin and wife Andrea in Atlanta at their parents. We got to spend almost a whole week with them which was so nice. Bailey loves having a backyard to run around in a few doggy play mates. I love getting to spend time with and get to know my new family.

My mother-in-law is not a cook and so I told her I would cook Thanksgiving dinner. It was so good! Everything came out perfect. We had some fun moments in the baking process however. Because my mother-in-law is not a cook her kitchen is not always as well stocked as I’m used to. For instance, Nick had to roll out the pie crust for me with a plastic cup. She also likes margarine better than butter. I would rather cook with butter and sent her to the store for some. She came back with ‘I can’t believe it’s not butter’. It took everyone and her getting out the bag of trash to reread the box to convince her she still bought margarine.  Love you Mommy Brenda!

Brenda also go me an early birthday present, the Wii Toy Story game based on the ride in Disney’s California Adventure park. Nick’s family is very Disney obsessed or passionate about as am I, so our marriage worked out great (Justin and Andrea met while working at Disney World). Anyways, this is a must have game; we love it. One of our favorite games is called ‘shakin bacon’. Mommy Brenda and dad Joe beat us kids every time.

In addition I also had my first real black Friday experience. We lined up in the cold November air outside Belk’s just before 12am to get in at 3am for a gift card (everyone in our group only got 5 dollars). Still, standing in line sitting and playing games, watching Nick and his brother Justin patrol the line for cutters, and forgetting that yes I am over 18, and not 21 but 22 made for a fun experience. No I have no intentions of repeating it next year. Maybe for some baby clothes sales though. I had a dream the two nights before black Friday that Nick and I went to the Gymboree sale to by baby clothes in both sexes from newborn until age three because the sales were just too good to pass up even though we didn’t have a child nor we’re we expecting.

I also helped mommy Brenda clean out her closet and curio cabinet. She got rid of nine ½ bags of clothes! What was really cool was her curio cabinet. She has amazing family pieces from her grandparents and great-grandparents. They are just stunning; they really don’t make anything like they used to. I fell in love with a tea pot that is over 100 years old. She told me I could have it someday and add it to my mini tea set collect. It was so beautiful.

All in all, it was a great trip. I can’t wait until the next family get together with more laughs that put me on flat on the ground dying of laughter.

We also celebrated Christmas same day as Thanksgiving. I got to
decorate the tree this year and yes its 100% disney theamed.
