I just finished reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett, after hearing so many friends talk about it how good it was I wanted to check it out for myself. I must say, it lived up to its expectations. I could not put it down and read non-stop for days. It was very well written and actually made me laugh out loud a few times. It was also a very moving story about the south during the early 1960’s. I don’t think I ever realized how different the United States was during this era, that it wasn’t all about hippies and getting high. I also forgot how much progress the United States has made in only 50 years; to me it has always seemed that the civil rights movement was forever ago, not a few of decades. I highly recommend reading this book.
