Did you know that February 28th was national Pancake
Day…according to IHOP? I know the whole point is to go to IHOP but we
celebrated at home instead because Nick worked late.
Ps. I’m into making a lot of things homemade and made homemade syrup for the occasion. It’s very yummy, easy, and reduces the chemicals you’re exposed to, I highly recommend. I have only made it once before, did you know you can over cook it? I didn’t. I let it simmer for a long time trying to let some water boil out and make it less runny. It was fine until it cooled and turned into a brown sugar rock. Yea, so follow the recipe and only boil for two minutes or so.
Here’s the recipe my friend Staci gave me
1 cup water
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
Boil for 2 minutes
Add 1 tsp vanilla extract
Add 1 tsp mapleine
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
Boil for 2 minutes
Add 1 tsp vanilla extract
Add 1 tsp mapleine
I don’t due the mapleine (or maple imitation extract)
because it’s an imitation of maple syrup and has chemicals in it. If I remember
correctly when I looked at the bottle it had a few ingredients that are ‘unknown’
variables and could mean a few different things***. Anyhow, I just use 1 tsp of
pure maple syrup instead. I don’t use pure maple syrup right out because it’s
way too strong for my taste.
***I’m very into reading nutrition labels and understanding what each ingredient is and reducing chemical exposure. But that is a long post for another day.
